ILC NewsLine – 12 March 2009

Once upon a time I was invited to speak at a seminar in analogy with the legendary city of Sofia, in the distant land of Bulgaria. He accepted, but was wondering what to say, opted for the advice and technical rather than a personal perspective on the importance and centrality of analogy to cognition. One way I could imagine this perspective is rechant a chorus that I sang many times in the past, namely:

One should not think of the analogy, if a certain form of reasoning (as in the words boring and uninspired “analogical reasoning and problem solving,” one long cliché in the cognitive science community),
